Film Annex #16: Soccer in Afghanistan

Before I post a double-header worth of pictures this week, check out my new Film Annex article covering the up and coming Afghani soccer league.

On a personal note: I am in the middle of a crazy time in my life. I am trying to produce a 6 episode series coming up here in the next few months (for more info, check out www.film-local.com/news), so if I’m not as prompt with my posts/drawings, that’s why. So allow me to apologize for that in advance–it will be an irregular football season this year, but I will get the coverage out as quickly as I can, I promise.

Anyway–Film Annex! Soccer! Check it out.

FA Article 11: Sam French and Development Pictures

Oh man…I am REALLY letting this stuff slide, huh? I can’t help it, though. New job + trip home + + 100 degree weather + peanut butter chocolate Rice Krispy squares= total lack of motivation. If it makes you feel any better, this is not the only thing I’ve let slip lately (though that makes ME feel a bit worse…)

Oh well. It’s July. Nothing gets done in July.

This week for Film Annex I stumbled upon a really cool interview with Sam French, founder of Development Pictures in Kabul. This is the company that produced Buzkashi Boys,¬†one of the first narrative short films to be shot entirely in Afghanistan. He also talks about the previous total destruction of the Afghan film industry, the role of social media in rebuilding a prosperous country, and, of course, his view on Film Annex’s Afghan Development Project. A cool guy, a great interview–I really recommend you take a look.

FA Article #10: Sean Behr from Adap.tv

Next article for Film Annex! And apologies–I should have had a post up last week about…I don’t know, Fraggle Rock or something. But seeing as how I started a new job last Monday (!!!!), time got away from me.

Anyway, this here article is another request from the powers that be (second time they’ve asked me to write on something specific–good sign?) Anyway, this discusses an interview with Sean Behr, general manager at online video and advertising company Adap.tv. He talks about his company, his thoughts on the progress of digital media, and why he supports Film Annex’s efforts in Afghanistan.

FA Article #9: The Incubator

As a follow-up to last week’s article, here’s more info on “The Incubator” project (dun-dun-DUN!!!)

J/k. It’s actually pretty cool. Though they weren’t specific, I assume this program will be rolled out in Afghan high schools, since it seems unlikely that you would be able to teach a third-grader how to code a video game or edit a movie.

Then again, who knows? I’m 27 and unmarried so kids are like short little aliens to me–who knows what they’re capable of in this day and age?

FA Article 8: Advertise.com Joins the ADP

This is my first Film Annex article where they gave me a very specific topic to write about! It’s very exciting–feels like a milestone.

Anyway, this week’s article is kind of a press release about how more internet-based companies are getting involved with the Afghan Development Project as well as a new initiative called the Afghan Incubator and Technology Grid. Yes, it sounds like something an evil super-genius would invent, but I assure you, it’s not.

At least, it doesn’t sound like it is.
